Fujian strikes hard on internet porn?

"The ban on online porn will contribute to standardizing online behaviour, and protect teenagers from the harm caused by unlawful and pornographic information"

This is allegedly one of the comments sparked by the news that Fujian province may soon issue legislation to ban pornographic websites.

It has been reported that Fujian people's congress delegates proposed to include two pieces of legislation banning internet porn on the 2008 - 2012 legislative plan. At the moment porn is not explicitly forbidden by provincial legislation.

The Fujian Province Method on Computer Information Network Security (
-->福建省计算机信息系统安全管理办法) (全文) prohibits only the diffusion of viruses and malicious software.
To try and curb the increasing diffusion of porn websites, delegates proposed to issue the Regulations on Protecting Computer Information Network Security, and the Regulations on Computer Information Network Security.

A cursory look at the Alexa Rankings tells that porn is in great demand - with three porn websites receiving more hits that the BBC and Fox News. In China porn "scandals"pop up in the news day in day out, so I wonder whether these measures will be enough to reshape internet users' behaviour.
